The use of high-quality chocolate could be considered one of the ‘secrets’ of Built Bar. Our perfectly tempered dark chocolate mixes with our naturally flavored protein base to produce a flavor combination reminiscent of high-quality candy or dessert. The lingering chocolate aftertaste – your last impression of the bar – is in sharp contrast to other protein bars which have quite negative aftertastes. Though our choice of chocolate does contribute a small amount of sugar to the bar, we have found that the fiber and protein present greatly decrease the rate of sugar absorption, giving no noticeable blood sugar spike in either Type 1 or Type 2 diabetics.

Too chewy

Nice flavours, great macros, but they keep your mouth very busy

Fellow protein bar searchers, these are formidable bars and might be exactly what you want, but you should read this warning first.

First, I don't mind a good jaw workout but these really require a lot of chewing. I used to eat Clif Builder bars, which are reasonably tough. These Built bars have great macros, I know we are all looking at them and thinking "18 grams of protein to 130 calories? sign me up". Turns out, the cost is dedicated chewing time. I have to take small bites, so as to literally not bite off more than I can chew, or I'll just be sitting there with an aching masseter muscle, mouth full of chocolate. Don't plan a conversation during or after eating a Built Bar. Some bars are like soft chocolate, this is a lot closer to taffy/toffee/nougat.

Second, they get stuck in your teeth pretty solidly. After my jaw workout, I have to peel them off of my teeth. Yes, with my fingers. If your tongue alone can unstick these bars, you should probably mention it in your Tinder bio.

However, you'll notice I'm still giving them four stars and they deserve it. They're compact, great macros, the flavours are serviceable, and that makes all of the above bearable. I might get them again, they just require more attention.
